Finding What Works

Day 35-

So today was my second to last day of home PT and I can’t believe how far I’ve come in just a month.  It still surprises me that I’ve come this far but I know that there is a lot more to do before I can call this whole ordeal over.  I’ve been finding that better than pain meds after PT is some ice and a nice, long nap.  I mean like a 2 – 3 hour nap!!  It seems that after I take one of these PT naps I feel so much better.  I’ve also made the decision that since I’m up and moving that perhaps it’s time to start watching what I eat so that I don’t gain back all the weight I lost after surgery and then to also take some more off to help my knee and the longevity of the replacement.  I have no certain number of pounds I want to lose or anything like that but I think I’ve got to make the effort to lose some weight for the sake of everything I’m going through.  I mean, I don’t want to get this done again in 30 years… I don’t think I’d have the strength to go through this again… it’s very tolling on the mind, body and spirit.  I’d also like to start my daily mediating to try and calm myself and to deal with the soreness without any meds at all.  Although, I’ll have to admit that I don’t really use them anymore all that often.  Maybe at night and sometimes during the day but not that often since I seem to be able to deal with this pain.  At least that old pain is gone and I think that’s half the reason I’m able to deal as well as I’ve been.

Good Vs. Bad

Day 34-

Not much to report today.  Went out for dinner to a buffet and had to walk back and forth but sadly the knee gave way a few times and it made me a bit nervous but I also noticed that the bump on the top of my knee seems to be going down.  That makes me very happy because that was part of what was impeding my movement and that was also part of what was making me so sore as well.  I think that this is going to be my last week as well of in home PT and I was thinking about how much I’m gonna my therapist.  In gratitude I got her a “Thank You” card and a gift card as well.  I know I don’t need to and that this is her job but I think if someone does there job well and with a good spirit as she does then a little something and a heartfelt thank you is in order.  Which brings to my mind my trip to the grocery store today.  I was swinging on of those motorized carts back into its spot when this woman has to go behind me with her cart like a bat out of hell complaining loudly about people who use those carts.  I had to reply with a very loud complaint about people who are inconsiderate of people with injuries.  I don’t think she heard and if she did, I’m sure it won’t sink in but why do people have to be such jerks to people who are laid up or sick… what happened to wanting to help people?  Jerks… that’s all I got to say!

Scar Complaints

Day 33-

So today was one of those lazy days at home but my knee was sore from yesterday and the scar was annoying me as well.  It felt like a pin prick in the same spot hundreds and hundreds of times over.  I looked at the incision and there was nothing there.  It was dry so I put some cream on it and still it was pulling and tight.  We think it might be the nerve or just that it’s so tender but either way its kinda annoying.  I hope this is one of those things that goes away.  So recently that has been my biggest complain that the scar tissue is so tender and tight but I’ve been putting some cocoa butter on it trying to get it soften and loosen up but it’s so sensitive that I can barely even put the lotion on it.  But, I hope that in a month or so that that tenderness goes away as does the tightness.  It’s a strange side effect of the surgery but part of me feels that if this is my biggest complaint then so be it!

Just Another Day!

Day 32-

Went out with my family again and getting in and out of cars is getting so much easier.  That doesn’t mean that I’m not sore at the end of the day because I still am but it gets easier everyday.  So that has been it, nothing too exciting to report.  Just being able to get out of the house without a lot of pain or hassle is a total plus and its good that its going well.  I just wish the weather around here would even out since when it rains I’m awfully sore and it can make sleeping a bit painful as well.  But, it’s coming along.
